A pinch from the heart

Last night we had the BGR talk in CF. Jason Foong was in his element, cracking his jokes and making us laugh. But more importantly, he talked to us about keeping ourselves physically pure for our future spouse. It struck most of us (I think), to knowing our limits when it comes to physical intimacy with each other.

Physical purity.

It sounds so simple. Just keep your hands (and thoughts) off each other until the night of your wedding. Whether you can or cannot tahan, don't tempt or goda each other into doing the premature reproducing procedure.

But what about emotional purity?

How many of us have given ourselves emotionally away to each other, just to have those emotions torn and shredded and thrown away? How many of us have experienced a break-up, and gotten hurt not because of losing our virginity, but losing our emotions to the person that we thought could keep them? How many of us have our emotions played, made fun of, because we gave it to the wrong person?

There is so much to consider in a relationship, not just whether "Do I like him/her?". Talking about it, when we were lolling about on the pavement outside Firezone once again reminded me that love/relationship problems will continue to plague us, whether we like it or not.

The Bible says in the all-famous verse-

Love is patient, love is kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. Love does not demand it's own way. Love is not irritable, and keeps no record of when it has been wronged.

1 Corinthians 13: 4-5

Can we love someone and not get jeolous when he/she is talking with the members of another sex? Can we love someone and not keep record of the wrongs he/she has done to us?

Most of all, can we love someone by not demanding our way with them? Are we willing to love someone by letting him/her go? When things do not go the way with the person you love, is letting him/her go a higher level of love then staying together?

I quote a good friend of mine- "It's not that I chose loneliness, but loneliness chose me."

Still, the Lord says-

Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.

There are three things that will endure- faith, hope and love- and the greatest of these is love.

1 Corinthians 13: 7, 13

Does it mean we always have hope in love then? And that we just need to keep having faith?

If that's the case, ALL of us have hope after all.

  1. Well, guess it's all part of a relationship I suppose.

Most important thing is to wait upon the Lord, to show you who "he" will be. To some it'll come early, to some it'll come later.

Best is to pray for God's will to be done, 'cause His ways are higher than ours.

    Good luck =)

Eugene: Ah, my dear class rep, thanks for your encouraging words. =) Yeah, for some of us, it'll come late, some early. Some, God will just tell us to be celibate =D

All the best to you too! Another half the hectic sem to live through... ;)
